The Land Institute (Salina, KS)
The Land Institute is looking for a creative, collaborative Soil Ecology Post-baccalaureate Researcher to start in summer 2025, ideally late May. The post-baccalaureate researcher (“post-bac”) will conduct research related to perennial grain interaction with soil and linking above and belowground plant traits as well as work with technicians and interns to maintain a Kernza®-alfalfa intercrop experiment. In the lab, they will help measure soil attributes that are predicted to change when annual croplands are converted to perennial grains. Post-Doc Opportunity
The Land Institute (Salina, KS) Housed at University of Minnesota
The KernzaCAP is hiring a new post-doc! This position will be a Land Institute employee that is housed at the University of Minnesota. It is an 18-mo position ideally beginning in March 2025.
The Land Institute and the University of Minnesota invite applications to fill a Postdoctoral Researcher position to analyze the environmental quality impacts of Kernza®, a newly developed perennial grain crop. This two-year position will be associated with The Land Institute but the physical location will be based at the University of Minnesota Saint Paul campus as a visiting researcher. The position will focus on analyzing and synthesizing data from two experiments conducted at six field sites across the US as part of the USDA Sustainable Agricultural Systems Kernza Coordinated Agricultural Project (KernzaCAP). Some fieldwork, lab analysis and travel will be required.This Postdoctoral Researcher will lead the development of multiple peer-reviewed manuscripts and participate as co-author on others pertaining to field experiments and other studies associated with KernzaCAP. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in field days and other outreach events for growers and the public at large. They will also help coordinate and/or participate in scientific meetings or special sessions of meetings focused on Kernza. Apply here.

The Land Institute (Salina, KS)
The Land Institute is looking for an ecology intern who is excited and interested to learn about diverse, perennial grain agriculture through hands-on participation, observation, and educational opportunities. Activities include work indoors and outdoors. Specific dates for the summer internship will be determined based on applicant availability. The internship is specifically for those currently in high school or recently graduating from high school; no experience or background in a relevant field is required. Research Assistant
The Land Institute (Salina, KS)
The Research Assistant will assist with seasonal research activities, including planting, harvesting, weeding, threshing, plant tissue collection, data entry, dishwashing, and other research support tasks. They will be expected to be able to work indoors and outdoors doing manual, repetitive tasks for hours at a time. This hourly position allows for flexible scheduling (20-40 hours a week) that may be dependent on weather and labor availability. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities. The Land Institute believes each employee makes a significant contribution to our success. Those contributions may be outside of regular duties. It is our expectation that each employee will offer his or her services in a courteous, cooperative, and helpful manner, with a positive attitude and in the spirit of teamwork to ensure the success of our company.
